Dell Rapids is going to be home to a new butcher plant that will also feature a retail section.
Schmitz Custom Meats, LLC owned by Steven and Theresa Schmitz held a ground-breaking event in the Fiegen Industrial Park on Friday, August 15th. They will be located on the corner of Garfield Avenue and Quartzite Street. The plan is for a 6,000-square-foot building that will feature state-of-the-art processing equipment. The $2.5 million dollar project is anticipated to be complete in the spring of 2026.
Five to six jobs are expected to be created when the facility initially opens and could grow as demand increases. Dell Rapids residents will get a modern retail experience, expanded product option, and the ability to purchase locally processed meats directly from the source. Farmers will get a stronger link between producers and consumers.
